Well they're both easy but I'll admit your procedure is even quicker. But how often do you test your glow plugs? I tested mine once 3 years ago and that's it. On the newer diesels the glow plug light is supposed to tell you if one plug is out, so this test is sort of redundant unless you're trying to find out which one is out.
With your test however, are you sure that one plug that for some reason draws more current couldn't mask another plug that's dead and give you the same total amperage and no sign of trouble?
