The ring seals the outside, not the inside of the distributor so a new one probably won't do much good.

Those 2 spots on the valve covers (1 on each side) have little wire "Filters" that you should clean every so often. I'd suggest doing so. Also make sure your PCV valve isn't frozen/gunked with age.
