Open the bleeder before you push the piston back into the caliper. That makes them easy to push back in and also gets rid of some of the dirt in the caliper cavity... It also stops that fluid from going back up the brake lines...and it also eliminates the possibility of overflowing the master reservoir.
You lever behind the old pads to do this, using the pad to push on the pistons . Then close the bleeder as soon as the piston/s are seated. Then remove the old and install the new.
