One of the things that attracted me to a diesel was their reputation for long engine life. I own a 1983 300D with 175,000 miles on it, and it runs well enough now that I expect it will keep going for at least another 100,000 miles. My question is how long should I expect it to keep running, given regular maintenance and oil changes? Is 250,000 miles average before a rebuild is needed, or is 500,000 miles more like it? What's your personal experience?
