Why nor run either a straight pipe under the car OR do a side pipe like on the old Corvettes. It would not look totally redneck, OK semi redneck, and would be easier to do than cutting the hood and relocating the battery.
Plenty of people here have done a straight pipe in place of the stock exhaust and they say it does not sound bad.
