Sorry for the venting, but it is a 60s era diesel, and does exactly as it was designed to do, VERY well. Provide fuel efficient and ample power to carry you safely and reliably for anywhere from 300k miles to who knows.. maybe a million?
Except for when it's still cold, or sometimes, trying to pass uphill, I have no real gripes with the performance of my automatic 240D. Of course I didn't buy the car for it's acceleration, but to take some of the wear & tear off my "98 Nissan, especially for local errands, where my 240D excels. I have driven other automatic 240Ds that were much slower than mine, and one or two that seemed quicker, so there is alot of variaton out there.
Anyway, if I'm in a hurry, I can take the Nissan, or now, my 5-speed 300TD.

Happy Motoring, Mark
