The linkage never was disconnected. But I did check to make sure nothing came unhooked.
But, as I said, I had been going back and forth in the driveway without difficulty and then nothing. No pop or clunk.
I'm leaning more to a vacuum problem but if it is bad enough to not allow the transmission to shift would there not be other vacuum problems?
