If you put 8.5 qts of oil in and it is not on your garage floor, you have more than enough. 8.5 qts is the TOTAL capacity. An oil change is more like 7.5 qts. These cars like to run with the oil halfway down the dipstick. To quote the dealer shop info "customers should be discouraged from topping up the oil".

Look more closely at your dipstick. You may find the oil is somewhat overfilled. Fresh clean oil is hard to see.
