The metal "cup" that holds the front springs is welded to the body structure of the car on the W210 chassis....suffers from a rusting condition that can cause it to break away from the car....and the spring collapses....thus the suspension collapses on that wheel....pretty dangerous if it happens at higher speed!

There was a recall I believe that reinforces the structure.
