Metal in the fluid is not a good sign on any car. I guess you could change the fluid and filter first and see what happens, but sounds like something has broken inside of it. I think transmission rebuilds are costly on these cars. I am hoping the one in my '88 300SEL lasts awhile. So far it works perfectly.

I am sure someone here will have more info. I am just the idiot here.
