I've used 10W40 on several occassions and really have nothing to complain about. Anything thinner I think isn't healthy for the engine because the top end is lubricated by pressure (aka it's not mechanically delivered) an at idle when warm the pressure is around 1.25 bar which I think is low as it is. Any thinner and the pressure I think will drop too low and the top end won't
get sufficient lubrication.
