I had a leak in one of my Passat TDI's years ago. Both of the "sound absorbers" in the floor got wet. I left them out in the sun for over 1 month and let them sit in the garage for another 2 months. They never dried out. Probably because it is so humid down here. I Could not believe the price of these things. The "sound absorbers" are VERY expensive. Your best bet is to find some from a salvage yard.

I actually made my own with some foil DynaMat and carpet pad from Ace Hardware. It worked as good as the factory absorber and raised the carpet back up to the height of all the rear A/C duct work.
