Assuming its a 97 to ~04 model with the 722.6 trans?

Check engine light on? Sounds like the trans is in limp home mode; 1st, 2nd and R only.

If you think it is accident related check the wiring harness on the right front (passenger side) of the trans; could have been knocked loose. Is a round plug in connector.
