We bought a used Precor from a used athletic equiment store. It does not have a heart monitor (I don't know any that do) but does have fully programable speeds and incline changes. Even as used it cost qver $1000.00. I think if you want programmable resistances and speeds you will have to spend more than $500.00.

We also have a good air resistance rowing machine that I prefer to the treadmill. It offers an excellent full body workout without the shockiness of running.
