Merchant ships cannot bear arms and still dock in multinational ports.

That said, it's ridiculous that these vessels carrying millions in cargo are essentially floating banquets to pirates.

A coordinated navy from all the countries involved should be able to secure a corridor for passage?

I'm guessing therein lies the problem...coordinating navies from the US, France, UK, etc. Good luck.
