Engineers are engineers--pretty much interchangeable--let them define a problem, and they will come up with a solution. The difference must be when the cost accountants get involved in "decosting" an item. Maybe the engineer has a greater say in the final product, or maybe the engineer is better at creative solutions, or perhaps the local buyer is more aware of the quality, and pays the price rather than looking for a bargain.
I'd like to know why.

I think its fairly simple a smart buyer knows that paying a little extra for a chainsaw is a good investment because under most conditions the saw will last a lifetime. My binoculars and scopes are Zeiss and Leica they are steep in price but they will outlast my lifetime and will probably be in my grandchildren's hands someday.
