It is culture, Germans like to get things right. So the engineer will design something and the workers will get it right when they build it. Unlike in this country where they try to do it as crappy as possible to pass inspection.

In my old W126 for example you can see a real pride in workmanship. Stuff that the average buyer would never see behind door panals and under the dash is just done so well.
