i would also suspect the valve guides. they are a notorious weak link for mercedes. if 1 or 2 plugs are really fouled, pull those valves apart first and see if you can move the guide up and down or side to side. no movement is allowed. of course, you still need the tool from the above post. good luck, chuck.
