I'd like to say that whatever path you decide to take, NOW is the time to start following it. The markets are down and everything is dirt cheap, you can get a ton for your money right now. Look at good companies like GE that will be around in 40 years when you retire.

You won't get another chance like this in your life to buy stuff this cheap, don't be one of those hindsight people 20 years from now.

As with Kerry I'm betting on real estate.
