I find that extremely hard to believe, on a cold engine. When I adjusted the valves with the bump starter, I was turning the engine maybe 1/8 of a revolution at a time and I can't see how the engine can start. How many revolutions were you spinning the motor?

PS pump works juuust fine.
there was a thread couple weeks ago where a guy had the bolts brake off for the crank pully. one thing brought up was if the belts are too tight it can put too much strain on the bolts, Alternator bearings, PS shaft etc...
