That oil bath filter may be why it is still alive in the first place...
A properly maintained oil bath will catch Smaller particles than any paper filter.. its just the physics of the design that is great...
I really doubt that a paper filter will have less air flow restriction also.. or that air flow restriction is the cause of your lack of power.
