Haw! You had me going there. Good one.

Not to derail this thread, but the title begs me to tell a story....

8 year old sunedog-son was reading aloud the other day for homework. (He has to read aloud 20 minutes each night.) His mom and I were trying to watch a March Madness basketball game on mute while he read. 95% of our attention was on the game and only 5% on his reading.

He got to a paragraph that contained the word "aisle." He didn't know the "s" is silent. (Pronounce the word out loud yourself sounding out the "s.")

Went something like this:

son: "Mom and I went to the grocery store. She told me to go to the third assil (pronounced very much like *******). I went to the third assil and still couldn't find the corn flakes."

This awoke me from my TV induced stupor. Wife and I cracked up as we tried to explain to him the "s" is silent.
