what I would do is check out this thing called Wheelskins. I put one on my 88 BMW wheel for the same reason(s). It works great after 3 years and I have always liked it (the feel) better than the original anyway. They are like $50 and take like an hour to install but are premier.... I got mine from Bavarian Auto but a steering wheel is a steering wheel....
