Question A/C on and my car is boiling hot??

Well it was an unusually hot day in Boston (85F) and I decided to use my 'newly found' A/C. Sure enough the A/C kept all four passengers nice and cool! However it wasn't very nice to the engine.

Without A/C. The water temp is around 85-90 and that's pretty much normal IMO.

Then with A/C on + traffic, etc. the temp hovered around 95-100!
Is this normal or should I get the cooling system flushed (the color of the water is some sort of bluish dark green) and the thermostat replaced?

After driving with A/C on (ever since I found out that it works.. :p ) I also noticed that the car is definitely more powerful w/o A/C on.

Oh weird thing is... with all this high running temperature, miles and miles of driving, the engine seems smoother now than it was. The rough idle is definitely gone.

I do recall my W124 doing the same (temperature wise), just that its A/C is nowhere near as cold as the W123's (I wonder why...)

Any ideas?
I'm kinda worried that it might overheat when the real summer approaches... (90+F)
