I have been planning this same project for weeks and keep putting it off. I tried everything on my past 2 Passat TDI's. Nothing would cut it except the oven cleaner followed by a pressure washer. And it was still a pain. I'm hoping the MB is not as coked up.

I would try B99 if you have access to it. Soak it overnight and I bet the crap comes right off.

I have heard that heat works. But never tried it.

I have not done the MB yet. It looks lke a little bit of a pain in the arse compared to the TDI because both the manifolds are on the same side.
