It is not legal to hunt with pistols in most places, but that is not the point. The point is, you are not allowed to put your hand on a holstered weapon, or unsling a weapon, or point a weapon at someone. At least not in CO. But, with a shotgun, you can effectively have someone in the target area without actually aiming it at them, and if it has no sling, it is already in your hands.
