Next thing you know, you're wearing a pair of handcuffs and your pistol is now evidence. Not real smart. Confronting people armed is a dicey business, and a dangerous one as well. If you are put into that position, it is best to be as well protected, legally and physically, as possible.

Heard of our friend
Vang? Even if you talk about the legal consequences, I think I would fare a lot better than the victims, don't you agree? Still I don't see how my holding a pistol is any more threatening than you holding a shotgun. Like you said, some places don't permit that for hunting so that might be a different story. I deer hunt with pistols when the choice is shotgun or pistol since I am not comfortable with a shotgun. Otherwise, I use a rifle. I've tried but after a couple of different shotguns, I concluded that I probably will never be as comfortable with a shotgun as a pistol or rifle.
And no, I don't confront someone when I am hunting unless I have to. When I hunt on private land and I see someone I don't think should be there, I ask them politely but firmly with my weapon in hand should they pull something. We were hunting on private land when I heard a shot. Story was that my friend found a bunch of mexicans trespassing and told them to leave. They gave him the "No habla English" thing so he told them that there were 5 of them and he had 5 rounds. One for each. When they didn't move fast enough, he discharged a round and that got them moving. Not much they could say since they were tresspassing.
