No power to headlights at fuses

Howdy!

Have a 94 E420 that had a bare wire shorting out a couple of pins in the fuse block. Here are the symptoms of wire on/off:

Wire on:
1. Headlights come on when car is started, dash switch turns on parking lights
2. High beams don't come on
3. High beams will 'flash'
4. High beams stay on if I hold the lever back in the flash position

Wire off:
1. Headlights don't come on at all (parking lights do) with dash switch
2. Headlights high beam works in flash position

I used a multitester and I show voltage coming across 'fuse d', which I don't see a listing for in my 'fuse designation' sheet, nothing on fuse 13 or 14 with the headlight switch to on.

I searched and found references to remote starters causing a problem and also upgrades to headlights. There is no remote start to this car, at least no fobs came with it, but the headlights/parking lights look different than on the 95 E320 I had. The parking lights are clear; euro upgrade gone bad?

I thought it might be the stalk switch, but since the high-beams flash and the low beams don't work, it would not be the problem.

Please let me know what to look for; perhaps someone has a picture of a stock headlight installation and the wiring connectors with wire color coding?

Thanks a bunch.

Bill
