Thanks for the correction. I did not learn of Operation Eagle Claw or its failure until we were well on our way to Subic Naval Base. Even then we were told it was eight marines. I just know that our task force (the guided missile cruiser Sterett, two frigates and an oiler) was out there in support of the Nimitz and it seemed like we were there forever.
