The '89 Caravan had an archaic 3-speed auto that was practically bombproof, compared to the UltraDrive 4-speed auto used in many 1990s Chrysler cars. That thing fails if you use Dexron fluid in it, and a variety of other stupid reasons.

Why not ditch it and get a GM minivan? GM seems to do their powertrain combinations just fine in V-6 front-drivers, at least. I think the Astro is a pretty good vehicle too, with proven mechanicals.
