I drained the ATF until I got it just below the minimum mark. I can't remember if it was 1/4 inch or a half inch below.

I took the car out and it would barely engage into reverse or drive. I was barely able to drive it back into the garage.

I put in 1 more pint ATF and the level on the dipstick was 1/4 inch over max. I took the car out and it was still slipping. 1 pint more and the trans shifts great. But now the level on the dipstick is a couple inches over the max mark.

What gives? It seems that I should be close to the correct level now by the way it functions, but the level on the dipstick doesn't match.
