The initial fill, no. It was specified that it should be below the minimum mark at COLD. And yes, of course it is level. I assume my garage floor is level. If it's not, I built the master bedroom above it on a tilt.

When at operating temperature, it rises.

When I took it out for the test drive and it wouldn't engage, it was taken out cold and it wouldn't engage fully into gear. After I put in another quart (after I drained out 2 quarts), it came back at operating temp. This is where it read far over the maximum mark.
