I've got a used OM616 I want to check compression on before I go thru the trouble of swapping it, starter and flywheel not included. Will a leakdown test tell me what I need to know? Is that properly done hot or cold as well? Hot is easily done- point a torpedo heater at it and have a beer, or I could feed it hot water w/ a hose.

Also, oil pressure sender was cut, so won't pump oil or develop pressure. How much care do I have to take rotating the engine when I check/set the valve lash?
