Yes, I can run it the way I want to and I don't have anyone telling me what to do. That is the good side. My point is that there is a not so good side to it. It's not all fun and games. Certainly the start up was not. Take employee waste for instance. Last time, WGAS. Hell, I probably participated in it myself. Today, waste is one of my concerns. Yesterday, I didn't care that the internet was down. Means I get paid to sit around. Today, the web based apps will not work and I am on the phone screaming for someone to fix it. Any way you cut it, there is way more responsibility being your own boss. My job is a means to an end. It is there for me to pay for my toys. It is not my life. It just happens that I can do it well and get paid and it is pleasant FOR THE MOST PART. But again, there are also unpleasant parts to it. Nothing is pure joy.

As to whether it would be better for the OP to start his own business, I don't know. Depends on his make up and what he is trying to achieve.
