Nasty stuff, dust is.
It’s not so bad on the engine as one might think. But it gets into just about everywhere else and is a real bugger to clean/blow out. A/C and avionics cooling inlets... Pitot/Static ports… Nasty.
The worst thing I’ve done was to drop into a feed corn field just after the combines went through.
It was about a foot deep in shucks and stalks. I can honestly tell you that I know exactly what it would be like to be under a Bush-Hog while it was running over a brush pile. Wicked nasty. Took the paint right off the rotors. The tail rotor was making a real mess out of things. Packed the inlet screens. And OMG, the noise was indescribable !!
I learned about flying from that...
