In the late eighties and through most of the nineties, I was working in the HMI software industry and driving 60 to 70 thousand miles a year all over Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and most of Lousiana, with a few treks slightly beyond. I started out with one 240D, into another, then a 210 diesel and finished up that stint in a 300E.

Those cars made it fun and also doable. I could get in one in the morning and drive 600 miles stopping only for fuel ,a cup of coffee and occasionally a meal, and get out of those cars rested, alert and ready to go to work.
