There's usually a range of offsets that work well.

Even the W124 with the 15-hole wheels came in two offset, 49mm and 48mm.

Manufactures usually pick an offset that covers a broad range.

I have tried both 16x7.5 ET 35, 37, and 41.

The 35 had the wheel a little to outside of the fender, but still acceptable.

The 41 brought the wheel really inside, but you couldn't run 225 without rubbing inside.

The 37 was just right.

BTW: 16x8 ET34 or ET35 is just too wide for anything but a 500E/E500.
