Good safety tip there. Putting g@$ in a diesel is more than a bad idea...it could be dangerous, given the higher flammability of gasoline and the higher compression of a diesel engine. When people ask me what would happen, I always make jokes about the cylinder head flying through the hood and going 100' above the car, but that's probably not too horribly far off...

I've made it a habit of leaning down and smelling the area around the fuel filler nozzle to make sure that I'm pumping pure #2 and not g@$ or, worse, water. I do this every fueling. I haven't caught any problems yet...fortunately.
