Well, Karl (my German indi mechanic with 38 yrs of MB experience) got it !!

.........after 2 hours of cutting with a pneumatic pannel cutter that is. Turns out I wasn't doing it wrong..it was just being a B*#&%.....

ds190 - I have no doubt that it should be a 5 min job....I was more laughing at that phrase because I already had that many HOURS invested. Turns out 2 more (hours) were needed though........

To top it all off.....we get it out and start putting it back together with the new tumbler and cover, and find that the cover that they sent me was the wrong one - they sent me the smaller one.

You can't make this stuff up...........
