ok I figured it out. Thinking I should check it all out, I pulled it all back apart, not too hard or long to do, and traced each wire I ran. Sure enough, the mic wire was pierced by a screw ever so slightly, grounding it out, causing the noise. After repairing the cut int he line and re running it away form all screws, it no longer makes any noise.

For fun, while I was messing with wiring, I decided to modify the unit a bit. hehe I wired the speaker output of the control module for the hands free kit to my fader switch, and wired the dash speaker and the speaker that came with the unit. I can now use both, the dash, or the motorola speaker at will. Very cool mod.

All that is left is placing the antenna on the glass, but I have to swap the antenna, as the one I grabbed doesn't hook up to the unit. I have to get one with a different connector, or a connector adapter of some sort. Not a big deal, running the antenna is simple and easy as there is minimal panel pulling to wire it up.
