Coincidental failure of the linkage is possible. More likely the linkage was tweaked when they lowered the rear of the engine down I suspect.

As the poster said get some pretty girl walking by to hold the pedal to the metal. Then inspect to see it the pump arm has gone all the way or you can push it a little further. Remember thats why people all claim their 240s are slow. All their pump linkages are messed up.
