The above tool is bent because of the moment imparted to it due to the distance of approximately 1.25" between the load at the jaws and the load from the jackscrew.

Such designs can only work for very light loads. The M/B spring compressor has the jackscrew in the center of the spring, and, therefore, it cannot easily bend.
