I believe that means the Alternator is no longer charging. Get a DMM and check it out. Measuring voltage on the battery while off and engine started will tell you if thats the culprit. It should be obvious.

There is nothing wrong with flooring it on the freeway every now and again. It is actually good once in a while because it gets rid of any excess carbon buildup on the pistons. Classic Italian tuneup
