Hard Breaking, kickdown delay

'90 300SL
It takes some force on the pedal to break and at kickdown ver slow to shift down. The engine is running very lean (fluctuating at 86% duty cycle). There must be a vacuum leak. I have checked the connections to the engine, all OK. Where else can I check?

Thanks
