M110 into early W114, and lower grill questions

Hello All,

I’m going to look at a 1969 114 250 Coupe on Monday and I’ve a few questions which I can’t find the answers to despite a lot of searching around – though it is a bit early here, and I may have missed them, so apologies in advance if that is the case. I would be very grateful for any tips or hints.

The car has had a 220d engine fitted – would that have been a straightforward swap?

I’d like to put an M110 engine in there from a W116 SE, would that be easy? I know they went into post ’73 models, but was the pre ’73 the m130, or are all 114 engine bays the same?

I’ve read that the front was lowered from 1973 onwards, can this be done to pre 73 models retrospectively, and if so, what does it entail – new bumper and grill???

I’ve owned a few 60/70’s models, but never contemplated a 114 until now. The look has grown on me, but I do wonder about the metal. Are these cars more of a problem, rust wise, than a 116??

Thanks in advance.

Best wishes,

Paul
