Anybody ever heard of an engine break in process like this?

Guy I work with bought a Husqvarna dirt bike. Motor seized solid after 2 months. The dealer refused to replace it since he didn't follow the manufacturers motor break in procedure.

Run motor 1 hour.
Change oil.
Run motor 2 hours.
Change oil.
Run motor 4 hours.
Change oil.
Run motor 7 hours.
Change oil.

Four oil changes in 14 hours of operation.
They claimed it's in the owners manual. Must be in the 95% thats written in Italian. (not a joke, only a few pages are in English)

I know they are just trying to avoid a claim, but thought their procedure was outlandish enough to be of interest.
