Truly. Unfortunately the way they are trained most Docs believe that there is a drug for any symptom. Often a drug is then prescribed for side effects caused by the first drug. A good pharmisist is your friend and if a new drug is prescribed ask your pharmisist about the side effects and their possible interacction with your other drugs. They know more about drugs than the Docs, generally and are much more likely to pick up things like the story above.
