The insulation on the wires is very brittle. It kept falling apart more and more as I wrapped electrical tape. Had to go back about 3 inches.
I really should replace the harness. I don't know anything about this. Is it just the harness for the A/C or the entire engine? Is it a difficult job?

Your '95 might have had the notorious "bio-degradable insulation" in which case the entire wiring harness should be replaced. During the early to mid-90's this was a problem on all of them. You are lucky in lasted this long, many of them have been replaced years ago.
