I have a 99 ML 320 and have had to replace a (dashboard) cupholder and the rear (console mounted) cupholder.

Maybe your problem is the "Palomino" description for the interior color. My ML is black with tan interior (even though the interior looks almost pumpkin colored in certain artificial light).
