My Pioneer panel is over 10 years old and with the new power supply will probably serve for at least a few more years. The "hours" figure is actually pretty silly, since there's virtually no way that a home set is going to see that many hours over the estimated life of a home set.

I have no burn in after all those year, probably because we're not completely careless with it.

The trade off in power consumption is Picture Quality. But I suppose environmentalist can justify the pixelation and constrast ratios for the Energy Star rating.
